Do you also install Windows 10 or 7?

Yes. Keep in mind that Windows 10 and 7 no longer get updates and have many vulnerabilities. But for offline use or certain compatibility needs, it's possible.

Can you install Windows 11 on a new FreeDOS laptop?

Yes. New laptops with FreeDOS (no OS) I set up completely: genuine Windows, optimized, drivers, updates, settings — ready from first boot.

What's the difference between an optimized and a non-optimized Windows? Do I need it?

The main difference shows in how fast and smooth the system runs. If you don't feel like you're waiting on the computer and everything works fine for what you do, you don't need it.

Non-optimized Windows: useless apps and services, excessive data collection by both the installed programs and Windows.

Optimized Windows: a cleaner, more predictable system with reduced resource usage.

Can you remove a Windows password?

Most of the time, yes — I reset the password of a local Windows account without losing your data. Tell me the situation on the phone and I'll say if it's possible and how.

04 — DIY guide

Guide: install Windows 11 from a USB stick, step by step

The steps for a clean Windows 11 install from a USB stick. Stuck on one? Call me — or I'll do it for you, on-site or remote.

  1. Prepare the stick & download Windows

    A USB stick of at least 8 GB. Download the official Windows 11 image from Microsoft or use the Media Creation Tool.

  2. Create the bootable stick with Rufus

    Open Rufus, pick the stick and the ISO image. GPT / UEFI scheme for modern boards. At Start, in the options window, you can disable the TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and RAM requirements, plus the mandatory Microsoft account.

  3. Backup — the step you don't skip

    Copy everything that matters (Desktop, Documents, Photos, passwords) to another drive or to the cloud. A clean install wipes the system partition.

  4. Boot from the USB

    Restart and enter the boot menu (usually F12, F8 or Esc, depending on the board). Select the USB stick.

  5. Install Windows

    Follow the steps and pick the edition. At partitioning, delete the old system partitions (System, MSR, Recovery and C:) and install on the unallocated space. For a local account, at the network screen press Shift+F10 and run start ms-cxh:localonly.

  6. Final setup & optimization

    After install: drivers, updates, privacy and power settings, everyday apps. Only now is the computer truly ready.

Windows problems and useful tips

What network settings do you recommend during install?

Keep the internet disconnected until the install finishes, and reconnect only after the first manual restart. That way you avoid forced updates and accounts mid-process.

How do I avoid the mandatory Microsoft account?

At the network setup screen press Shift+F10 and run start ms-cxh:localonly. You'll be able to create a local account, with no Microsoft account.

Which Windows edition should I choose?

Home is the standard edition, enough for most. Pro (recommended) supports more memory and more processors. N ships without the preinstalled media apps, Education adds business features, and Workstations is for maximum resources.

Can I delete the small partitions Windows creates?

No. During install, Windows automatically creates 2–3 small partitions (around 16 MB, 200 MB and 700 MB) — they're needed for boot and recovery. Leave them alone.

Where do I get the right drivers?

Graphics drivers, straight from the manufacturer's site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel). For the rest, Windows Update covers most; if problems show up, try a different driver version.

My PC is slow — where do I start?

Restart first. Then check the startup apps in Settings and watch CPU and memory usage in Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). If you still have an HDD, moving to an SSD makes the biggest difference.

I got a blue screen (BSOD). What do I do?

Check the temperatures and the messages in Event Viewer. Note the error code on the screen and search it together with your laptop or motherboard model — that's how you reach the real cause.
